Description
Flaky, golden puff pastry Christmas trees filled with warm caramel apple filling a festive and easy holiday treat drizzled with caramel and dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
2 medium apples, peeled and finely diced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp flour
1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tbsp water
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour.
3. Cook for 5–6 minutes until apples are tender and the mixture thickens slightly.
4. Stir in 1/4 cup caramel sauce and remove from heat to cool.
5. Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut each into Christmas tree shapes using a cookie cutter (or cut triangles for trees).
6. Place half of the cutouts on the baking sheet, spoon a small amount of apple filling into the center, then top with the remaining cutouts.
7. Press edges gently to seal and brush tops with egg wash (egg mixed with 1 tbsp water).
8. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
9. Drizzle with caramel sauce and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
You can use store-bought pie filling to save time.
Add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
