Description

A soft, savory quick bread loaded with sharp cheddar cheese and a hint of garlic. Perfect as a side for soups, chili, or breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tbsp sugar

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup milk

1/3 cup melted butter

1 large egg

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 loaf pan.

2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

3. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth.

5. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined—do not overmix.

6. Transfer batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

7. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

9. Slice and serve warm with butter.

Notes

You may add diced jalapeños or herbs for extra flavor.

Use extra-sharp cheddar for a stronger taste.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
