A festive collection of classic and flavorful Christmas side dishes from creamy mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts to honey-glazed carrots and cheesy scalloped potatoes perfect for complementing your holiday feast.
Ingredients
2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper to taste
1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey
1 lb carrots, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp butter
3 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp thyme leaves
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. For mashed potatoes: Boil potatoes until tender, drain, and mash with butter, cream, salt, and pepper until smooth.
3. For Brussels sprouts: Toss sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper; roast for 20–25 minutes until crispy, then drizzle with honey.
4. For glazed carrots: In a skillet, melt butter and brown sugar; add carrots and cook until tender and caramelized.
5. For scalloped potatoes: Layer sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish; combine cream, cheese, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper, then pour over potatoes and bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
6. Arrange all sides on a serving table, garnish with parsley, and serve warm with your main course.
Notes
Add a sprinkle of nutmeg or rosemary to your mashed potatoes for a holiday twist.
Try roasting the Brussels sprouts with bits of bacon for extra flavor.
