Description

A delightful dish that combines fresh tomatoes, basil, and garlic with crispy toasted French bread, perfect as an appetizer or side.


Ingredients

  • 1 large French baguette, sliced in halves
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare the garlic butter by mixing softened unsalted butter with minced garlic in a small bowl.
  3. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly across the sliced baguette.
  4. Add the shredded mozzarella generously over the garlic butter.
  5. Layer the fresh tomato slices on top of the cheese.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and dried oregano.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Broil for 1-2 minutes for a crispy top.
  9. Add chopped fresh basil on top after baking.
  10. Cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute butter with a vegan spread and use plant-based cheese.
