Ingredients
For the Brownie Layer:
– 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
– 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup (90g) packed brown sugar
– 2 large eggs
– 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
– 1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
– 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
– 1/4 tsp salt
For the Cookie Layer:
– 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
– 1/3 cup (65g) granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup (90g) packed brown sugar
– 1 egg yolk
– 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
– 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
– 1/2 tsp baking soda
– 1/4 tsp salt
– 3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the brownie batter by whisking melted butter with both sugars.
3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
4. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir to create a smooth batter.
5. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan.
6. Make the cookie dough: Cream the softened butter with both sugars.
7. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy.
8. Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.
9. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly over the brownie layer.
10. Lightly spread and press the cookie dough without mixing it into the brownie layer.
11. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
12. Let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then remove and allow to cool fully before slicing.
13. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
Don’t overbake — the brownie layer should remain slightly gooey for best texture.
Cool completely before slicing to maintain clean edges.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
For a warm treat, microwave slices for 10 seconds before serving.
