1 lb ground beef
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
8 slices of bread (sourdough or rye)

4. Assemble each sandwich: bread slice, cheese, patty, onions, another slice of cheese, and top bread slice.
5. Spread butter on the outside of each sandwich.
6. Grill on a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
7. Slice and serve hot with pickles or fries.

Add sautéed mushrooms for a diner-style upgrade.
