Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast is soft, buttery, and lightly sweet—perfect for brunch or breakfast-for-dinner. These pillowy rolls soak up a rich cinnamon-vanilla custard, delivering golden bites with crisp edges and fluffy centers.

Ingredients

Scale

1 package (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls

3 large eggs

¾ cup whole milk

¼ cup heavy cream (optional, for richer custard)

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for griddle)

Powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh fruit for topping

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream (if using), sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.

2. Carefully separate or slice the Hawaiian rolls—either as whole connected rolls or individually.

3. Preheat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter.

4. Dip each roll (or connected slab) into the custard, coating all sides without soaking too long.

5. Place onto the hot skillet and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 2–3 minutes per side.

6. Transfer to a plate and repeat with remaining rolls.

7. Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh berries.

Notes

Make ahead tip: Mix the custard the night before.

Try filling with cream cheese or Nutella before dipping for a stuffed twist.

Use a serrated knife to cleanly slice the rolls in half if making them stuffed.
