Description
Soft, fluffy red velvet cinnamon rolls shaped into adorable hearts, swirled with cinnamon sugar and topped with rich cream cheese frosting a festive twist on a classic breakfast treat.
Ingredients
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet active dry yeast
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup warm milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 tbsp red food coloring
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
2. Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, and red food coloring; mix until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead dough until smooth, then cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
4. Roll dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
5. Spread softened butter over dough and sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
6. Roll dough tightly from the long side and slice into rolls.
7. Shape each roll into a heart by pinching the bottom and curving the top.
8. Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes until set.
10. Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
11. Frost warm rolls and serve.
Notes
Dental floss makes clean cinnamon roll slices.
For deeper color, use gel red food coloring.
Rolls can be prepped the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
