Description
This Homemade Fig Jam is naturally sweet, rich, and full of deep fig flavor. Perfect for spreading on toast, pairing with cheese boards, or dolloping over yogurt—it’s a pantry staple made simple.
Ingredients
1½ lbs fresh figs, stems removed and chopped
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1 pinch salt
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, combine chopped figs, sugar, and water over medium heat.
2. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Cook for 10–15 minutes until figs soften and begin to break down.
3. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to reach desired texture (smooth or chunky).
4. Reduce heat to low. Stir in lemon juice, vanilla (if using), and salt. Simmer for another 10–15 minutes until thickened.
5. Transfer to sterilized jars and let cool completely. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
Use black mission or brown turkey figs for the richest flavor.
For longer storage, process jars in a water bath canner for 10 minutes.
Add a splash of balsamic vinegar or rosemary for a savory twist.
