Description

A rich and hearty Bolognese sauce perfect for pasta, lasagna, or stuffed peppers.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, finely chopped carrot, and celery for about 5-7 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  3. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula until browned.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, followed by the red wine. Stir to combine.
  5. Season the sauce with dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Simmer the sauce on low heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  7. Finish by stirring in the whole milk, cooking for an additional 30 minutes with the lid off.
  8. Serve the sauce over cooked pasta and garnish with fresh basil.
