- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup whole milk
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, finely chopped carrot, and celery for about 5-7 minutes until soft and fragrant.
- Brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula until browned.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, followed by the red wine. Stir to combine.
- Season the sauce with dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer the sauce on low heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Finish by stirring in the whole milk, cooking for an additional 30 minutes with the lid off.
- Serve the sauce over cooked pasta and garnish with fresh basil.
