Description
Soft, fluffy donuts filled with sweet fruit jelly and coated in sugar a classic bakery favorite that’s irresistible when freshly made.
Ingredients
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1/2 tsp salt
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil for frying
1 cup fruit jelly or jam
1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
Instructions
1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar; let foam for 5 minutes.
2. Mix in remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt.
3. Gradually add flour and knead until smooth and elastic.
4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
5. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into rounds.
6. Place on a floured surface, cover, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
7. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
8. Fry donuts in batches until golden on both sides.
9. Drain on paper towels and roll warm donuts in sugar.
10. Fill a piping bag with jelly and inject into the center of each donut.
Notes
Use raspberry, strawberry, or grape jelly for classic flavor.
Be careful not to overcrowd the pan while frying.
Donuts are best enjoyed fresh the same day.
