Ingredients

Scale

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

24 chocolate truffle candies (like Lindt or Ferrero)

48 candy eyes

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips (for spider legs)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.

4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

6. Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.

7. Bake for 9–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft.

8. Immediately press a chocolate truffle into the center of each warm cookie.

9. Melt chocolate chips and pipe or drizzle spider legs around each truffle using a piping bag or toothpick.

10. Attach candy eyes using a small dab of melted chocolate.

11. Allow cookies to cool completely before serving.

Notes

You can use any round chocolate candy for the spider body, such as malt balls or mini peanut butter cups.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.

For extra flair, dust the cookies with edible glitter or sprinkles before serving.
