This Sweet Potato Gratin is creamy, cheesy, and layered with tender sweet potatoes baked in a rich garlic-infused sauce. A comforting side dish perfect for holidays or cozy dinners.
Ingredients
3–4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp thyme
Butter or nonstick spray for greasing
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
2. In a saucepan, heat heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme until warm (do not boil).
3. Arrange a layer of sliced sweet potatoes in the baking dish.
4. Pour some of the warm cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle Gruyère and Parmesan on top.
5. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
6. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
7. Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving so the gratin sets.
Notes
For extra flavor, add caramelized onions between layers.
You can substitute cheddar or fontina for the Gruyère.
Slice potatoes evenly so the gratin bakes uniformly.
