Description
A sweet, savory, and beautifully festive gratin made with layers of tender sweet potatoes, tart cranberries, warm spices, and a buttery topping. Perfect for Thanksgiving and holiday gatherings!
Ingredients
3–4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 tbsp melted butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup pecans, chopped (optional)
Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
2. In a bowl, whisk together maple syrup, heavy cream, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
3. Layer half of the sweet potatoes in the baking dish.
4. Sprinkle half of the cranberries over the sweet potatoes.
5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the top.
6. Repeat with remaining sweet potatoes, cranberries, and cream mixture.
7. Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes, until sweet potatoes are tender.
8. Remove foil, sprinkle with pecans if using, and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbling.
9. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.
Notes
You can prep and assemble this gratin one day ahead and bake before serving.
For a richer flavor, add 2–3 tbsp brown sugar to the cream mixture.
Swap pecans for walnuts or omit for a nut-free version.
