Description
Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken tender grilled chicken breasts topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and melted cheese, all finished with a savory touch of seasoning. A hearty restaurant-style favorite made easily at home!
Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 tbsp olive oil or butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional garnish: chopped parsley
Instructions
1. Pound chicken breasts to even thickness and season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
3. Cook chicken for 5–6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown. Remove and keep warm.
4. In the same skillet, add remaining oil and sauté onions and mushrooms until tender, about 5–6 minutes.
5. Stir in Worcestershire sauce for added flavor.
6. Place chicken back into the skillet and spoon the mushroom and onion mixture over the top.
7. Sprinkle shredded cheese over each chicken breast, cover the pan, and cook for 1–2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
8. Garnish with parsley and serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or a side salad.
Notes
For a smoky twist, grill the chicken instead of pan-searing.
Try topping with crispy bacon bits for extra flavor.
Use pepper jack cheese for a spicy version.
