Description

A rich and visually stunning chocolate cake perfect for expressing love on Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Red food coloring
  • Buttercream frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.
  5. Add red food coloring to achieve the desired color, if using.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, frost with buttercream frosting and decorate as desired.

Notes

Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for the best mixing. Don’t skip the boiling water; it helps to create a moist cake.
